No CommentsEach month Oracle releases a new update for Oracle Siebel CRM. In order to keep your environments up to date, it’s a good habit to automate this monthly rollout. With Siebel update 20.3, some changes were introduced in the installer of the Siebel Enterprise Server, which might result into exiting with a non-zero exit code. This might break your automated update flow, or the build of your Siebel Docker images. In this article I’ll describe the problem including a solution.

It can take quite a bit of effort to spin up and keep a Siebel (lab) environment running with the latest Siebel CRM updates applied. To make it easier, I’ve been experimenting with Docker. In this article I’ll explain the main reasons why I’ve been running Siebel in Docker and I’ll discuss what Docker actually is. In the upcoming articles you’ll find more details on how to set up such a (lab) environment.

Discovering the Siebel IP 2017 sample environment

Last summer (2017) Oracle released the new Siebel IP 2017 version, with loads of new, mostly architectural changes. More agile, more elastic, more continuous delivery, more cloud ready and less SRF. Setting up a new IP 2017 full server environment proved to be somewhat difficult and time (and CPU/Memory) consuming. This made me wonder what the benefits would be in having a local sample environment.

In this blog post I will get into details regarding the possibilities to create a security model in Knowledge Advanced. Every organization will run into the question who is allowed to see which part of the large set of information available. You probably do not want your customers to see all the information an agent has available. If an agent is allowed to offer a customer a maximum of 25% discount it does not mean the customer has to know this. A customer can be very happy when he is offered a 10% discount, although, when this same customer knows he can get a 25% discount and he only gets a 15% discount offered, you will not end up with a customer as happy as in the previous scenario, regardless the fact that you offered a higher discount rate. For the same reasons, you might not want to show all the information a mechanic has access to, to a call centre agent. Imagine the agent instructing a customer how to replace a coil in his microwave based on this information…
